The Swan Hotel in Lavenham, Suffolk is a fantastic venue from the viewpoint of a wedding photographer, full of character and charm. Many great backdrops in the Lounges, Bars and Gorgeous Rooms, beautiful grounds of the Hotel, along with first class staff, catering and service ensure your wedding day will be without a hitch!
We have many many years' experience at The Swan Hotel, and are always recommended to couples booking their weddings there, as our studio is practically over the road!.
The formal line-ups need not be too formal, and the posey shots are usually far from posed. ‘Arranged’ is a better term, we feel posing you too much won’t ever look natural, we’d much rather photograph you looking comfortable and relaxed, arranging you in beautiful surroundings for memorable photographs.
We always ensure the photos are whatever style you wish them to be, at some weddings we spend the entire afternoon taking formal family portraits, at others only a handful of arranged groups are required. They can be as formal or candid, classical or contemporary as you’d like them to be. It's up to you.
We upload your photographs to our website after the wedding (if you so wish), so your guests can order photographs online without any inconvenience to you. These can be password protected too if you wish, so only guests from you wedding can see them. Here you can also see the entire selection of photographs from recent weddings as a potential customer.

Learning how to bounce the flash on my camera from a wall or ceiling, I can create very natural lighting effects. The same photo with a 'normal' flash pointing straight at the subject would have made for a far less pleasing image!
The camera I use is fantastic in low-light conditions like this ceremony shot, where I don't want to use my flash.
Straight after the ceremony we popped out into the courtyard to take a few photos. The bush in the background changes colour throughout the year. I like to include the texture of the stone urn in my focussing, leaving the more distant background out of focus to make sure the subjects stand out sharply from the background.
The garden at the swan always looks fantastic, very neatly trimmed bushes and topiary, smart furniture etc. Here I chose to 'defocus' the background while keeping the bride and groom sharp. makes for a very pleasing image.
Slightly more posed here, but still relaxed. Detailing on the dress and flowers along with faces of course are ensured sharp, the background, although deliberately defocused can still be made out to be a smart garden
An umbrella on a damp day can actually make a great accessory!
We took a walk up the hill from the Swan Hotel to the Guildhall in Lavenham. Very nearby but worth a short walk. A whole sequence of photos were taken here, some closer croped like this (asking the bride & groom to simply look away for a moment) and some wider shots, showing more detail of the old tudor building
