Wednesday 3rd March 2010 – Bright Star – Admission £3.50

Based on Andrew Motion’s biography of Keats and written and directed by Oscar winning Jane Campion, this film received a 5 star rating in the Guardian and a 4 star rating in the Daily Telegraph.

It is set in London in 1818, when the poet John Keats (Ben Whishaw) was nursing his seriously ill younger brother.  The girl next door, Fanny Brawne (Abbie Cornish) was an out spoken student of high fashion who was unimpressed by Keats’ poetry and literature in general.  However she did help Keats with the nursing, which touched him. When she asked him to teach her about poetry, he agreed and an impassioned love affair developed.
